Work At Home Musings

Managing home and family while working at home!

Garage Sale Today!

My girls decided to have a garage sale today. We kind of got a late start, but they have sold a few items already. We mostly have a lot of toys that we want to get rid of. The kids are hoping that with the money they make they can buy new toys, but we will have to see about that! I know that they want to save their money for a trampoline. Whatever we don’t sale, we are going to give to the Lupus Foundation.

You’re Never Too Old!

You’re never too old for acne! My oldest daughter, who has beautiful skin, was asking me how to get rid of acne. I told her, you don’t have acne, you have a few tiny pimples! Then I had to inform her that that old myth about when you get older you won’t have skin problems is just simply not true. Even us old folk can have an occasional break-out!

Catching Up!

After a long and fun packed vacation, I am trying to catch up on all the blogging and housework that needs to be done! We had a great time visiting family in Washington and Utah and the kids had a great time horseback riding, river tubing, swimming in the pool and visiting various attractions.

horse Rachel was a little scared the first time she tried horseback riding, but she soon felt as ease!

cousins The 2nd cousins all had fun playing together at the family reunion.

swimming Noah loves to swim and jump in the water in Leavenworth, WA!

efy fun My oldest daughter spent some time with at a church youth group activity. She had a blast!

pioneer grils We spent Pioneer Day (July 24th) in Utah. We saw the parade, set off fireworks and the girls bought bonnets to wear.

Funny T Shirt

While I was in Leavenworth this past week, I went into two different stores. The first store had t-shirts with the a little logo “Life is Good”. The shirts all had upbeat messages on them. The next store I went into had funny t-shirts with a different message. These t-shirts were made by “Life is Crap.” If you are not the eternal optimist, these shirts are for you! This is the one that I wanted to get my daughter whose life is all about Chocolate (and she loves to use the word crap for some reason):

One Week Over

The first week of my vacation is over and it went super fast! Unfortunately, I am going to have to wait until I get home to post some good pictures, but here is where we stayed the first week:

big ponderosa

The home was right on the golf course in Kahler Glen (near Leavenworth, Washington). We were able to go horseback riding, tubing and visit the cute Bavarian town of Leavenworth. We also picked up some Turkish Delight from the Applet Cotlet store in Cashmere (more about that delicious candy later)!

Blogging in Washington

I am finally on vacation and blogging to you from the great state of Washington! The trip was pretty uneventful but my husband and I had to travel on separate airlines due to the cost and I got to travel with the two young ones by myself. They were pretty well behaved though.

My husband almost didn’t make his connecting flight as they had given away his seat to someone else. I think if he had been traveling with one of those indestructible Zero Halliburton briefcases instead of the soft sided one he was carrying, I think he would have bonked a few heads!

Missing Her

My oldest daughter is on vacation with her Dad for two weeks and I am missing her. I think she needs to get a cell phone amplifiers, because every time she calls, the signal is really poor. We have communicated mostly by text messaging, but it is nice to hear her voice. Here is my tribute in pictures to her:

Another 5K Race

My kids participated in another 5K race on Saturday. This one was for Ryan’s Run. Ryan’s Run was set up by Ryan’s family (Ryan passed away in 2003 due to a congenital heart condition) to help critically ill children’s family with financial assistance for medical needs.

The race starts and the clan is off!

Taylor wasn’t feeling well that day and finished at 42 minutes. She claimed she need some massage therapy after the race, but she didn’t get any! Poor Taylor!

Graduation Day!

Graduation Day! Well, not really. It is not called graduation now when you finish 8th grade. But, they did have a ceremony and my daughter has finished her middle school years. Now on to High School!

The ceremony was held in the gym and they really packed everyone in. Each 8th grader was only allowed two tickets and it was still really crowded.

Biography Breakfast

Each year at our elementary school, the 3rd graders pick a person from history and read a book about that person. They are then required to write a report and a short speech about what they learned. They practice this speech for a few weeks and then present the speech to parents at the Biography Breakfast. All the third graders come to school in costume and get to eat breakfast before their presentations.

My daughter chose Annie Oakley as her character (she had seen the movie Annie Get Your Gun and enjoyed it). I had an old skirt from a costume and we found a boys button down shirt at Kohls for $2.00. She also wore a cowboy hat. I am glad that she choose someone unique as there were about 10 Helen Kellers and 10 Pocohantas. There were also a number of children who chose Albert Einstein, Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr., and Thomas Edison.
