I have two high school aged children who will be leaving for college in the next few years. While my husband and I have done a decent job saving money for when this time comes, we’re still a little bit anxious about the amount of money we’re going to have to start shelling out soon. We’re doing our best to save money here and there to help alleviate some of the stress, but it’s hard. We still have a family to support, after all. With their extra-curricular activities and clothes, not to mention the amount of food it takes to feed two teenaged sons, our life is very expensive. One of the things we’ve done to save some money is switch our natural gas provider. This is by far the easiest thing we’ve ever done to cut costs. It took us about five minutes to make the phone call to shopelectricityratestexas today and save and then they handled the entire process for us. We started seeing savings on our bill immediately, and we’re stocking all of that money away for the unexpected costs that are no doubt going to arise when our kids go off to college.

A green architect I know told me that some appliances use up electricity even when they’re not plugged in. He encouraged me to unplug my electric toothbrush, TV, and coffee maker when I was not using them. And I’ve seen a small difference in my electric bills and hey every bit counts, right?
