I came across an interesting blog post at the Fuel My Blog Blog: The top ten reasons to give your teen a computer in their bedroom. My favorite one is:
9. You don’t mind them giving out your home phone number, address and location of the school they go to, to every “friend” who instant messages them. Heck, you’ve always wanted your child to be more popular anyway!
Bottom line, if you give your children a computer, make sure you are protecting them from online predators!

I agree! Since it is National Internet Safety Month I have to respond to your post! I think this is a serious issue and some kids these days are unaware of the dangers of putting personal information out there on the ‘net. The only way to keep our children safer is to have parents and teachers educate children about internet predators. There are great resources out there for adults and children to educate themselves about safer internet practices. MySpace has a safety page, and there are sites like NetSmartz411.org which teach parents how to keep their kids safer. Before you give your kid a computer in their room, make sure they know how to protect themselves!
