What to you do in the summer time? I try to think of things to keep my kids busy. One year I found metal detectors sale and we bought a metal detector that kept them busy for weeks. Here is a list of things that I do to keep the summer from during into a television/video game fest.
- Plan periodic trips. We often head to the beach once a week. The park is another option and it is free. Bring along a sack lunch.
- Challenge the kids to read a number of books for the summer and include a treat or prize for each milestone. For example, if you challenge your middle school student to read 8 books, treat them when they have read 3, 5 and 8 books.
- Search the web for fun backyard activities. There are lots out there!
- Make a game and craft box for those rainy days.
